Study Guide
There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the unit Provide experiences to support children's play and learning. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.
Vocational Education and Training online courses are another choice that you can make to assist you to further understand this unit.
Each session is accompanied by a set of colour-coded resources. Please review the resources before attending each VOOC. After the VOOC, you should record your thoughts, ideas and suggestions about the session and share them with other learners. We have provided links to blog, forum and sharing tools but you can also use your own methods. VOOCs are not compulsory but they are an opportunity to gather evidence of your learning by participating with others.

A few points to think about for your blog:
- The EYLF highlights the importance of creating a sense of belonging for all children, why is it important to create a sense of belonging for all children and what could an educator include in the environment to help create a sense of belonging?
- How does the environment contribute to children's learning?
- Why is it important for children to be provided with opportunities to engage with the natural world?
- How can the environment support 'being'?
- Educators need to provide safe environments that allow children to take risks- this statement seems to be contradictory, how can educators provide this type of environment?
Session 2 -Provide a range of experiences to stimulate children's play and learning- Pink tiles
This includes:

Selecting a range of stimulating materials/
resources for play experiences

Materials & resources selected are relevant
to the interests and abilities of the children
- Organizing & arranging equipment/resources/material to stimulate play & enhance learning
A few points to think about for your blog:
- The EYLF states "A supportive active learning environment encourages children's engagement in learning which can be recognised as deep concentration and complete focus on what captures their interests" (page 33) What does a responsive educator need to consider when creating environments to ensure they are supportive active learning environments?
- Does the arrangement of materials impact on children's learning? If so what are some considerations an educator should take into account when organising and arranging equipment/resources and materials?
Session 3 - Use routines, experiences, resources and materials flexibly to support children's play and learning- Purple tiles
This includes:

Providing unhurried opportunities for both group &
individual play activities and experiences

Using routines to undertake intentional teaching
and seek opportunities for spontaneous learning
- Using experiences, resources and materials flexibly to meet children’s individual preference
A few points to think about for your blog:
- Why is important to allow children large blocks of unhurried time to engage in activities and experiences?
- Intentional teaching is deliberate purposeful and thoughtful, how could intentional teacher strategies be used during routine times?
- What is the importance of allowing children to move resources and materials from one area to another?
Session 4 -Supporting and facilitating Children's Play, Learning and Physical Activity - Orange tiles

- What could the consequences be if an educator tried to take over children's play or turn the play into a lesson?
- How do babies invite educators to play?
- Why is it necessary to respect a child's choice not to participate?
- What are the benefits of assisting children to choose play experiences which support their competence and confidence?
